Improving the lives of vulnerable women in the DRC
The DRC has a one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world. There is a dearth of knowledge and understanding about basic maternal health issues and there are many challenges in reaching the women and communities who need this education the most.
Channel Initiative (CI) is a small NGO working to improve the lives of some of the most vulnerable women in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). CI uses our films to help train local women become community educators.
“Last week we were able to lead a training seminar with vulnerable female artisans on reproductive and newborn health, and we screened the Swahili film on breastfeeding. The women absolutely loved watching it”.
The local women learn from the films and then screen the films in their communities, providing important health information on a range of topics.
“The films are such a fun and engaging tool, and the women learn so much from every single film. That kind of visual learning tool is so rare in the DRC. They’re able to share that knowledge with their daughters and their friends. The films stick with them and that’s really powerful.”
